The Dearest Place On Earth

Charles Spurgeon once said, "Give yourself to the Church. You that are members of the Church have not found it perfect, and I hope that you feel almost glad that you have not. If I had never joined a Church til I had found one that was perfect, I would never have joined one at all! And the moment I did join it, if I had found one, I should have spoiled it, for it would not have been a perfect Church after I had become a member of it. Still, imperfect as it is, it is the dearest place on earth to us..." A timely word from the Prince of Preachers in a timely season where there's been a sifting and shifting in the church. Open or closed? Doctrinal or political? What's the church supposed to be and do? We need clarity on this more than ever. Fortunately, the Apostle Paul helps us in his letter to Timothy, "I'm writing these things to you so that, if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth" (1 Tim 3:15-16).
