A Living Hope

February 1, 2015 Preacher: Scott Hollingshead Series: Hope when life is hard

Topic: Hope Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3–9

BIG IDEA: How to fight for joy?
1. Put your hope in your future, protected inheritance
a. From God-3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!-
b. By mercy-According to his great mercy-
c. Through salvation- he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the head-
d. Of Permanence- 4 to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you,-
e. Under security- 5 who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time-

2. Put your hope in a present, proven faith
a. God doesn’t waste trials
-5 lessons on thinking Biblically about trials:
1. Trials should not prevent joy- In this you rejoice,-
2. Trials are temporary-though now for a little while-
3. Trials serve a purpose-if necessary,-
4. Trials hurt-you have been grieved-
5. Trials come in many forms-by various trials-
b. God rewards genuine faith-7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith-more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire- may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ-
c. God gives himself in personal relationship- 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory,
d. God’s working out our salvation in our lives- 9 obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.-

Bringing faith to life:
1. Your future is secure- your best life is later
2. Your faith is built up- God’s refining your faith so that it’s in nothing but Jesus
