Title: Creation

BIG IDEA: God created all things, in the beginning, by His word for His glory

1. Who? 'God'

Nehemiah 9:6 You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and you preserve all of them’ the host of heaven worships you.

Job 12:10 in his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of all mankind.

Col 1:17 and he is before all things in him all things hold together.

2. What? 'Created all things’

Exodus 20:11- for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore, the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Col 1:16 for by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities- all things were created through him and for him.

3. When?  ‘In the beginning'

Galileo said, “The Holy Ghost intended to teach how to go to heaven, not how the heavens go.”

Ps 111:2 Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.

Wayne Grudem, “When all the facts are rightly understood, there will be no final conflict between Scripture and natural science.”

6 views:

1.Historic creationism

2. Young earth

3. Gap theory

4. Day-Age view

5. Literary framework

6. Theistic evolution

4. How?

Ps 33:6-9 by the word of the Lord the heavens were made and by the breath of his mouth all their host. He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap; he puts the deeps in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the Lord; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him! For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm.

Romans 4:17 as it is written, “I have made you the father of many nations”- in the presence of the God in whom he believed, who gives life to the dead and calls into existence the things that do not exist.

Creation 'ex nihilo' (out of nothing) rejects 3 erroneous views:

1. Naturalistic evolution

2. Dualism

3. Emanation

5. Why?  'For His glory'

Romans 1:23- claiming to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling man and birds and air and creeping things.

Romans 1:25-because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than that Creator who is blessed forever amen!
