-Sin is pervasive 

     All humans are sinners- Rom 3:10-12 

     

Total depravity 

            1. Complete inability of a person to please God- Romans 8:7-8 

            2. The corruption of sin affects all aspects of a person Titus 1:15  

            3. All are born sinners- Ps 51:5

Sin is omission- James 4:17 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin. Rom 7:19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.

Sin is commission

Sinful responses to sin:

1. Minimize 

2. Justify 

3. Rationalize

4. Blameshift

5. Victimization

6. Stubbornness 

7. Partial confession

8. Worldly sorrow

 

Right response to sin

1. Admit your sin-1 John 1:8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 

2. Confess your sin-1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 

3. Repent of your sin 

4. Place faith in Jesus Christ

 

Christian response to sin:

1. Resist temptation- Guard your affections/Guard your influences/Guard your identity

2. Walk by the Spirit

3. Kill sin
