Text: Luke 21:25-28

Big Idea: The shaking of the cosmos and the cloud-coming of Jesus prove He is the Son of Man bringing redemption to His people.

1. The shaking and removal of the old covenant world (v. 25-26)

Isaiah 13:9-10 -- "Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger, to make the land a desolation and to destroy its sinners from it. For the stars of the heavens and their constellations will not give their light; the sun will be dark at its rising, and the moon will not shed its light." 

Joel 2:10-11 -- "The earth quakes before them; the heavens tremble. The sun and the moon are darkened, and the stars withdraw their shining. The Lord utters his voice before his army, for his camp is exceedingly great; he who executes his word is powerful. For the day of the Lord is great and very awesome; who can endure it?" 

Joel 2:30-32 -- "And I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and columns of smoke. The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved. For in Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be those who escape, as the Lord has said, and among the survivors shall be those whom the Lord calls."

2. The cloud-coming of the Son of Man (v. 27)

Isaiah 19:1 -- An oracle concerning Egypt. Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.

3. The redemption drawing near for Jesus’ disciples (v. 28)

Application:

1. Put your hope in the unshakeable Kingdom.

2. Put your trust in the enthroned and one day returning King.

3. Put your confidence in your eternal redemption.
